Plugging another gap in the Montour Trail: Valley Brook #2 Groundbreaking

[via Facebook]
You are all invited to attend the groundbreaking ceremony for the Montour Trail's Valley Brook Bridge #2 project on Sunday, October 12. The event starts at 1:00 PM. Light refreshments will be provided. It will be held on the adjacent property…at 150 Valley Brook Road, McMurray PA 15317. In addition to short presentations by government, agency and MTC officials, progress in nearby trail projects will also be discussed.
Several of us rolled down for the opening of the Triphammer Road segment a year ago July---anyone interested in a repeat performance? The site of the future bridge---which we visited last summer---is about 6 miles, nearly all on trail, from the Library or West Library T stations at the end of the Blue Line; a bit over 14 miles from the Large Park & Ride, where we met last year; or about 27 miles from the bus stop at IKEA in Robinson.

yeah, it's kinda too bad that we have multiple, positive, bike-related events the same day. Bad in a way, good in a way, too. So, I did this:
@pghtransit Heads up, Oct 12, it would really help if the 2-bike limit on T cars be lifted. Signif bike event out by Library, 1pm.— Stuart Strickland (@bus15237) September 25, 2014
...and...
@pghtransit It's a groundbreaking ceremony. So you might have a dozen cyclists trying to get to it, then a dozen coming back. 1-time thing.— Stuart Strickland (@bus15237) September 25, 2014
I'll let you know if I hear anything back.

Sorry but I'll be volunteering for the 321ride as well. I'm interested in what response Stu gets back from PAT. I can understand their need to somewhat limit the number of bikes on the T, but at the same time they dont limit the number of baby strollers or large hockey bags that can be brought on... so why just limit bikes? (I love the idea of a baby-buggy protest with dozens of cyclist pushing strollers onto the T at rush hour as a protest)

Actually, PAT 'requires' pushers of baby strollers to fold the things up (noone ever does, though). The *one* time I witnessed a driver ask a mommy to fold up her stroller, she got raging pissed off, grabbed the kid under one arm and slammed the stroller down on my foot in order to 'fold' it.

I did hear back from Port Auth in a direct tweet. They know about this thread now, at least. I also directed them to the Facebook page for the trail. I'm hoping that, given they now have a couple weeks' heads-up, maybe something positive can come of this. All we're really asking for is for them not to care if maybe four to six bikes would be on one train, and that that might happen a few times during the day, as cyclists ride out or back in, or both. Maybe if they ran two-car trains on the Blue Line that day? I dunno; don't they do that already?
