I've repurposed one white political sign into a board for measuring snow depth next to my rain gauge. With a brick to hold it down in case of wind, I taped rulers to a couple of thin rods. One to measure total depth, the other to measure daily snowfall, which I clean off every morning. The rods themselves came from the sign.
I participate in
CoCoRaHS, a national program for measuring precipitation. In addition to the board, I have an official rain gauge on a post. Every morning at 7:00, I take a reading on the gauge, and if there's snow, I report those stats, too.
