Sandcastle / Keystone Trail progress

*Tried to add this to the old thread but, search is giving me trouble. As far as trail progress. In the keystone section all of the metal posts have been put in to build a wall to separate the trail from the scrap yard. A small section of the wall is complete with a stone finish. Looks like some leveling of the trail has been done in the sandcastle parking lot. Should have taken pictures!! haha ...oh here is some from the facebook page.

Sweet! I'm planning on doing the trail in 3 weeks. I wonder if it will be done? haha, well, I'll have to find a good detour.

I rode through there Saturday and I was pleased to see progress at the CostCo end of Sandcastle, too. All the light poles along the roadway need to be moved about six-eight feet away from the rr-tracks to make room for the trail and two lanes. As of Saturday all the light poles have been repositioned. They've also cleaned out the area between the sinkhole and the tracks so that you can ride through there uninterrupted now. I'm impressed that they're not doing this half-assed, they're really doing it right. I'm interested (in a sidewalk-superintended sort of way) to see how they finesse the space between the tracks and the tall wooden SC fence - not a lot of room there, hard to imagine them moving that big wall. We'll see, as they say. as I'm writing, let me mention I rode down to Dead Man's Hollow. Once you run out of pavement and the surface turns to packed limestone, it's all rutted, tracked, pock-marked and frozen over. Not a fun surface to ride on, to the extent that my companions found riding on the fringe of the ballast preferable to riding on the trail. No improvement in the markings passing through McKeesport, and no repositioning of the trail to go behind the newspaper / parking garage yet. I did stop at each of the two hotels in the Waterfront for a warm-up and a restroom visit, the Marriott on the way south and the Hampton Inn on the way back north, and they were both very bicyclist-friendly. And that's how a bill becomes law...

Nice - any word on an estimated time to complete yet? And what's the link to the facebook page?

June 15th is the party, the trail is scheduled to be finished before that but they don't have a solid date yet.

It has been said that they won't be able to do any construction when Sandastle is open, that would make the deadline May 25th.

I rode past there on Sun and thought a bunch of eagle watchers were going to get obliterated by a train. Jeebus. Them people crazy 'bout eagles.

Haha, yes I biked through on Sunday too! There was like a dozen "eagle watchers". The trail was super busy. I counted 82 people (walker / jogger / bikes) from Page dairy mart area to the dead end!
