The asphalt is smooth and there are no cars, currently. I would bike it.

Serpentine Drive closure?
Does anybody know the status of Serpentine Drive in Schenley Park? It has been closed all summer, and they repaved it right before the Grand Prix. I saw a news story about a truck crashing and rolling over the hillside during that project in July. Is this road going to re-open? Are cyclist currently allowed to ride on it? I live in Greenfield and use this road a lot to connect up to Forbes. Otherwise I have to keep going up Barlett and deal with cobble stone streets that I like to avoid.

I ride it fairly often. Just be careful going down along the right side. The pavement is still a bit raw there as it needs a final pavement application and the wall is still out in a section. The road is void of cars since it is blocked at the top and bottom.

It's a big hill bit you can also cut into the park at Forbes by the golf course and take whatever road that is down the hill past the road that goes to the back of CMU and then past the Westinghouse memorial and onto Phipps.

I rode it last week. There as a section that is falling away - but the road is so broad it is completely safe to go through there on a bike. Just don't be a dope and roll right next to the damaged area. (*disclaimer - I am not a civil engineer nor knowledgeable of landslides, sinkholes and whatnot. Just a cyclist making observations)

I was just being a goodie goodie and following the road closed signs, and then went down and saw about 3 other cyclist and 4 runners on it....... But yeah, I see the wall that got destroyed, and I see where the truck went down. It is much more steep there then I ever even noticed. That truck must had a hell of a tumble, and yeah if somebody went over that hill on a bike they could be injured pretty good.
Now seeing that damaged wall and hill side I see why the road closure is taking longer than the city probably had scheduled.

What was the initial event here? Did the truck tumble, destroying the wall? Did the wall collapse and the truck tumbled?

So it's still closed because they are working to shore up the hillside? Maybe put in barriers?
