What part of town was this stolen from, and if I may ask, what kind of lock was cut?

STOLEN BIKE ALERT
Last Thursday night my commuter was taken from the front porch of my house (lock was cut). Description of the bike:
Black Surly Karate Monkey with Red Fork (very rare)
Rear wheel is a Shimano 8-spd Alfine laced to a Velocity Blunt rim
Front and rear fenders as well as a rear Old Man Mountain rack.
