Stolen KHS Flite 220 in Friendship/East Lib

On Tuesday July 28th between 7-9 PM my blue KHS Flite 220 road bike was stolen from 251 S. St. Clair Street. The bike is sized L (displayed on a sticker on the downtube). The right dropdown bar is bent inwards slightly. There are tears in the bar tape on the handlebars as well from a couple wrecks. There is a blue Planet-Bike light mounted to the left center of the handlebars. Mounted to the seatpost is a red Cat-Eye 5-way blinking rear light. It is attached with string. Here is a picture of the same make and model of the bike:

Please contact me if you see this bike in the area. Reward offered. Call Steve @ 412-478-1436. Thanks.

That really sucks. What kind of lock were you using and where/what was it locked to?

Just to clarify, we aren't asking about locks and whatnot to be jerks, it's just good general info to know.

going outside and not seeing your bike where you left it is one of the worst feelings i can think of.

Yeah, it's right up there with watching your bike go by your rear window as you drive into a parking garage.

One of my worst memories from when I was a kid was one afternoon when a couple of my sisters, their boyfriends and a few others were sitting at the kitchen table late one afternoon. All of a sudden I hear a very familiar "thud" from the open front door. It's the sound of my back wheel hitting the top step as my bike is being carried down off the porch. We jumped into a car and chased the guy -- a neighborhood loser. We could identify him - we knew him by sight - but lost him when he cut through a yard. I think the bike was eventually recovered, but it was never the same.

So, what happened? Did you get your bike back?

THIS BIKE WAS FOUND!!!!!!!!!!!!

Saturday night my hardcore band was playing a fest in Columbus. I checked my email on the iPhone and there was a subject line KHS Flite 220. Turns out someone bought my bike in PGH, sent it to a family member in Maryland who owns a bike shop. Somehow dude sees my Craigslist posting about the bike and looped back with their family member and then dude emails me!

I write him back from the gig and give him my number and he gave me a call yesterday at my folks'. I described the bike down to every minute detail and it was mine! He is sending it back and does not want a reward as he "doesn't sell stolen bikes". I figure shipping is about 30 bones and I'll probably slip him some more just for being a nice person. But yeah, man, fucking righteous shit. Bike is on the way back to the office this week!!!!!!!!!!!

Wonderful.

What was the name of the Maryland bike shop? It's only fair to have this thread turn up in a google search, after all.

this is sooo cool that the 1/2 of 1% that is non-porn internet can serve a purpose for the greater good.

I was thinking along the same lines as Mick......we want to support the LBS that did this good deed. Since he's out of state, we can at least create a positive buzz via the internet! He did go to the effort of CHECKING CL, after all.

thanks to everyone here who rides a bike in town keeping their eyes/ears open. i really appreciated it!
