My brother always said these were the most dangerous cyclists. I am always tempted to just stop and block their way after getting their attention, but usually just swerve to avoid and say "wrong side of the street" as I pass.
street salmon
ok, people riding the wrong way on the sidewalk is no surprise, or maybe the wrong way down a one way street. but, tonight i'm heading up aiken from 5th to walnut around 6, and i see another bike coming straight towards me! traffic was pretty heavy but luckily i had enough of a gap to merge in with the cars - otherwise what was i gonna do? parked cars on the right, moving cars on the left, and i'm doing 15-20. of course it's also dark, although luckily it's a pretty well-lit street. i didn't notice if the other bike had a light, but its rider (inexplicably) looked surprised to see me... argh!
I was probably doing 30 down Stanton ave toward Butler last saturday, salmon coming upstream on a mountain bike in granny gear. Looked like he may have been doing the weave all over both sides of the road climb. This was in the steep, curvy, really crappy pavement bottom part...bad spot. Just told the dude "wrong side dude!".
I got a pretty nice cut on my finger during the G20 when some kid salmoning without a light ran into me.
Maybe we should be saying "Wrong side, street salmon."
"Dude" just doesn't have the same ring to it.
