I will ride today, by 11ish. You can text me at 412-596-3566. I will use a road bike for comfort and efficiency, not so much for speed this time of year on a longer ride. Think of it as Long Slow Distance at a 14-15 mph pace. Will ride toward Coraopolis and then into and around the City (east end and back).
It was a great day to ride. I ended up doing more miles than I planned. (I don't think I've managed to do that much since Fall.) Could it be Spring already?
When I left in the morning our driveway was completely iced over. When I got back the ice was gone.
Yes, I think that the spring fever bug took a huge bite out of me today. I had not been doing long rides this winter either. It was a perfect day - apart from the ginormous headwind on the last 10 miles. I imagine that it was a tailwind earlier in the day so it evens out.
There were headwinds yesterday as well. When i was going down schenley drive, I had to pedal pretty hard to just go 10mph.
I was on the Baldwin Trail today, to Glenwood Bridge. Things looked great up to the work-yard, but it was wet snow and ice beyond that, but not too bad if you slammed through it. I did wimp and walk the ballast from the end of the trail to the road at the swim park (should have ridden; the ice disappeared pretty soon).
On the assumption that the path to the north of the steel factory would be a mess, I chose to climb the steps to the high road. Big mistake. It was ice and mud (but ridable). The right thing to do would have been to bomb down the south side of the factory (hopefully avoiding security) and saunter over the tracks at the auto-parts store. To make matters worse, a couple of guys on fixies asked me about the best way to get to Homestead. I told them to go up the stairs. Bad advice: they ended up walking their bikes.
I really wanted to go on a nice ride today but I'm sick and have this nasty combination of sore throat / not being able to breathe well which would really make a ride not fun. So jealous of all the people I saw out riding today.
