Ouch
Today's "Wear Your Helmet" PSA
Big crash at the Tour d'Suisse. Watch Heinrich Haussler's head (dude in the polka dot jersey) in the slo-mo replay...
Wow.... see the helmet breaking in pieces!
Very good PSA
PSA for more spokes and beefier rims.
Ah- reminds me of why I gave up bike racing.
Cavendish is apparently so fast that he can pass through solids....
Cavendish is apparently so fast that he can pass through solids....
too bad the three guys behind him aren't/can't. tumbles to the ground, takes two to the head and another to the back. man... he took more of a beating than haussler.
Boonen totally ran over his neck. Gnarls.
I honestly dont think a 32 spoked box rim would
survive a wheel riding over it at that angle at
that speed.
Boonen totally ran over his neck. Gnarls.
This was not likely an accident.
Cavendish was fined, Haussler is out of the race, and a Frenchman broke his hip.
Whoa! Cavendish was fined? It looked to me like Haussler hit him on purpose.
Edit: yeah, I see it now, Cavendish definitely cut Haussler off, but it still looks like Haussler bumped him for it. And look at :08-:10. It sure looks like Haussler shoved him all the way across the road.
naw cav started moving over to try to block.. cut across everyones line.
Steevo, you need to show this video before ever C race at the Oval, just after you remind everyone to hold their lines in the sprint....
Makes me glad I spent my weekend crashing in the relative safety of a full set of DH armor.
I'm the guy on the ground.
Maybe I'm stating the obvious to you all but after watching the video, I'd say that still photo above is photoshopped. His wheel looks "normal" as the bike flips. Watch the slo-mo where Ciolek flips over that same wheel.
It def folds like that. .look really close at 1:15 on the video.
I'm the guy on the ground.
Ouchie.
I didn't DH'ers raced in packs? Or, were you so fast that you caught your minute-man?
eric, if you are up for redemption i'll be going out to the springs firday afternoon and all day saturday to ride and film with some buddies and scout lines with the park staff. i have room for one more person and bike.
oh and the man missile totally had that coming from boonen.
when reading about cav being fined earlier, there was an ad for cav's book 'boy racer.' fitting for that idiot.
@netviln--thanks, I missed that. I must say it's pretty amazing that it did that.
@cburch +1
@steve k I read an except of Cav's book in some cycling magazine. I paraphrase for brevity but it was basically:
"I got a good lead out and ...then I went for it. I won. God I'm the most awesome thing ever. I love me."
No point in reading a whole book of that.
I'm glad to hear that other people don't like Cav, either. I took great pleasure last year when Hushovd won the green jersey with his long solo break attempt. There is more to being a good racer than simply being able to sprint for 250 meters.
I have not one, but two of those Boy Racer books.
Steevo has one of them right now, he's brushing up on his sprinting.
I can't stand the guy.
any else reminded of the robbie mcewen headbutt incident?

I'd like to head back up this weekend, but I'm glad to be hanging with the kids this weekend.
I hoping to redeem myself at Whistler in a few weeks. The crashing in front of me actually ran me over. I was so slow my 30 second man caught me.
I'm not a Cav fan, and our office was also spammed with multiple copies of Boy Racer. We gave it to our resident Brit to read as he recovers from a DH induced collarbone break.
In case you didn't really dislike Cav before, there's this from Cycling News:
Cavendish was involved in a crash in the finale of that stage when he ran into Cervelo's Heinrich Haussler. The HTC-Columbia rider is said to have spat on Haussler after the crash, which led to a protest against him at the start of Wednesday's stage.
So, not only did he not hold his line and drift into Haussler, but he spat on Haussler after taking him down. Classy.
bikesnob is going to have a field day with this.
Thought I'd resurrect this thread with Juan Antonio Flecha's smooth moves to avoid the Tour d'Suisse crash. Crazy.
