Whatever steel frame you end up with, buy a can of framesaver and spray it right away. Have the frame professionally prepped or do it Kraynick’s (faced,chased, etc). Clean it thoroughly after rainy rides. Don’t let it stay in the wet too long.
I’ve seen a cracked Steamroller, but then again, it was messengered on for a while. Bikes can last a while (I’m talking steel) if they’re properly cared for, but if you let it go in the rain, the moisture can do a lot of shitty stuff to the frame. Pretty much just keep it well maintained, and if it gets really wet, wipe it down thoroughly.
