I’m new to bike commuting in this area and I’m looking for a relatively safe way to get from Mount Lebanon to downtown Pittsburgh. All the postings and suggested commuting routes I’ve seen involving the South Hills require going over Mount Washington. I’m fine with that sometimes, but other times I’ll want to take advantage of hopping on the T after 9.a.m. and taking it through the mountain instead of going over it.
I’m specifically looking for a route that will get me to the last possible/practicable point (heading into town) from which I can hop on the “T” and head through the tunnel. In that regard, I think there’s a stop called “South Hills Junction” but I can’t find a way to get there from Mount Lebanon on a map.
Any suggestions or comments would be most appreciated.
