Trail near 16th St. Bridge closed.

Just went by at about 7am. From the trestle near the Convention Center heading toward L-Ville is blocked off and not accessible until at least 16th St. Not sure why, but i figured i'd give anyone heading into town a heads up. I did see some light poles in the parking lot near there, could possibly be for the trail? I'm not sure.

Thanks for the heads up! I talked to Friends of the Riverfront. This section of trail will apparently be closed for a while. Someone needs to do some sewer line work or something. There was apparently a communications failure. FOTR is currently working on rectifying it, and will have more details shortly. Stay tuned.

Blahhh. I like riding that trail home in the mornings. After 3rd shift Mon and Tue. I really don't care much for traffic and dealing with the insane rushrushgoasfastaspossible crowd around the city at 7-8am.

Damnit. This is my main route from the Strip into town.

OTOH, on the North Shore, the work around the 16th St Bridge that had the trail closed a few weeks ago appears to be complete.

Dang, I guess I'll just have to use that shiny new bike lane on penn ave. At least it works in one direction.

I can't wait for this to open back up. I checked this morning to see if it might be ready early *rolls eyes* but it's still fenced off.

I guess "through February" translates to "through April"? Still barricaded but the trail is usable. People just climb over the fence and hoist bikes over it.

Yeah, FOTR's website now says 'through April'. Turns out that polar vortex crap doesn't just suck to ride through.

Ugh, this sucks. I've been snaking my way through the parking lots, which isn't great, but can still be better than Smallman. At least the trail from the convention center to the point is fully open again.

Same. I'll take that left into the parking lots, past the jersey barriers and you can get to Railroad/22nd. through them. The guy that runs the lot at the very end is always super pleasant though when i hop his chain or monster truck around it.

ARRRGHHH! "The Three Rivers Heritage Trail between 11th and 22nd Street in the Strip District will be closed for underground utility work through ***Fall 2014***. Trail traffic will be detoured to Smallman Street during this time."

This is ridiculous. The trail itself has clearly been usable except for the fact that there are jersey barriers at either end. Smallman street is not an acceptable detour either.

Am I just lucky? I take Smallman inbound regularly from 35th on down, and rarely have any trouble. Or have I become inured to all the usual crap from traveling through the suburbs so much?

Stu, I think you're just used to it. And frankly, so am I now, because I haven't been able to ride on the trail for ages. The stretch between 16th and 11th just strikes me as particularly dangerous because of the way the cars are parked, and the fact that you have wide, unmarked lanes without clarity about who should be where.

11th to 16th isn't so bad, it's the bit between 16th and 21st, alongside the Produce Terminal, that's so wretched. The fact that the pavement's falling apart, especially in the intersections, doesn't help, either...

Right. I was thinking of that stretch and got the streets wrong. Either way, the trail is a much more pleasant and safe option.

I guess I do put up with a lot of crap. For example, I regularly take outbound Liberty from Grant or even Wood out to 31st St at rush hour. Penn is one-way, and Smallman is out of the way, in addition to all the stop signs (that I do stop for). I've never even thought about working my way over to the trail.
