Nice!
Thanks for the heads up. Hopefully it will be online later for those of us who may miss it.
Tune into KDKA news tonight at 6 for an updated story on Dan
Not sure how many of you know this, but our intern, Dan, is back in Pittsburgh! He's still got a lot of healing to do, but he has come a hell of a long way after the hit and run.
Andy Sheehan from KDKA did a story on him this week and it's airing tonight at 6pm so tune in.
...or don't have a TV.

(great job Dan! so very glad that you're back)

Is the Jeep driver EVER going to actually be charged or is he just going about life without a worry. GOODNESS do cyclists equal road kill and no one cares?? Sick!
I'm curious as to what the charges could be in a case like this.
They don't consider a car a deadly weapon (IMO this is due to government pandering to large corporations, but that's me)
Leaving the scene of an accident? My impression is that this is a more serious crime than it used to be, but not as serious as I would like.
In a related note: What ever happened to Timothy Kish? - the driver in the hit-and-run that killed Rui Hui Lin?
@gg As it said in the story, an arrest is imminent.
Also I'm told the investigation in Wilkinsburg re: Anthony Green was kicked up to Allegheny Co. Homicide.
An arrest has been "imminent" since the day after it happened. Hope it really is.
The police never used that word prior to last week.
OK... good to know Scott.
Wow, this is good news!
I think the news sucks. Goodness, how long ago was this hit and run? I don't want to hear this might happen and that might happen. I want action! This guy was crushed by some guy in a jeep that kept going and removed parts of the bike and who knows what from the front of that jeep and kept going? Hello? He should be behind bars awaiting his fate! Good news? Sorry, the only news I want to hear is he is being charged and this isn't taken so lightly. People can run others over and just pull things off the front of their cars and go about business as usual, like nothing happened!
I meant it's good news that the Anthony Green case is being considered Homicide. That rarely happens.
Goodness, the guy is claiming he thought he hit a dog. How drunk was he? Glad they finally arrested that idiot. Also, glad there wasn't a death in this one.
This guy's story really makes me sick. He stopped to drag the bicycle out from under his car and then continued. But he's still claiming he thought he hit a dog. What a fucking loser asshole piece of shit.
@jonawebb posted before I had a chance. Ditto
that story is a bit inaccurate. 3 bicyclists? where did they get that? the Trib called me earlier so expect another story there momentarily.
So the granddad said it was bad and everyone feels bad?
Then supposes that he nor anyone else would have know what to do in that situation.
PG: Driver charged in Lawrenceville hit-and-run http://www.post-gazette.com/stories/local/neighborhoods-city/driver-charged-in-lawrenceville-hit-and-run-661034/
Just saw a thing on Ch. 4 - apparently they're doing a story on Dan (including an interview) on the 11pm news tonight.
Holy shit that makes my blood boil.
Dogs don't ride bicycles that you have to extract from your car's grille. Just sayin'.
"He said police waited to charge Fishinger because they wanted to make sure Yablonsky had recovered enough to testify."
This makes sense. So let's give the police a break when it takes time to charge people. They want to get convictions, too.
The charge, "aggravated assault," strikes me as a good one.
That was the same charge for the attempted murder on Colin, and although this one doesn't have teh same level of malicious intent, the charge indicate taht it's being taken seriously.
I imagine that'll be more willing to give Fishinger some kind of lowered charge plea bargain than they are for Scholl.
That strikes me as appropriate, though. I don't want Scholl out unitl he's old. I'm OK with letting Fishinger out after he's had some time to meditate on the error of his ways. I'm hoping for a few years, but I dont' expect that.
Wait for Dan to be able to testify? Yea, I'll by that.
How these things will run when I am Judge Judy:
If you cannot afford your own helmet, you are entitled to a free, court-appointed model...
I do not think he was charged with DUI. He was driving with a DUI related license suspension, which carries significantly greater penalties than a regular suspension. He may have been on probation for the prior DUI offense, which can also trigger greater penalties.
It will be interesting to see if his mother is called to testify that she called the police and what her testimony entails.
In the past, the Allegheny District Attorneys office has taken a really hard line on these cases where there is someone who is hurt this seriously. They will ask for significant jail time. Time will tell if that actually happens.
Finally, the police officers on the case are smart and have a lot of integrity. This is being taken extremely seriously.
Arrested on the following chargers, as per the police blotter:
Driving While Operating Privilege is Suspended or Revoked.
Vehicle Turning Left.
Turning Movements and Required Signals.
Aggravated Assault by Vehicle
Reckless Driving
Accidents Involving Death or Personal Injury
Accident Involv. Death/Inj. While not Licensed
Immediate Notice of Accident to Police Department
interesting.
'vehicle turning left' is failure to yield to oncoming traffic while 'turning movements' is "no person shall turn... unless and until the movement can be made with reasonable safety"
(blotter (PDF) gives statute references for the charges; in order, they're 1543, 3322, 3334, 3732.1, 3736, 3742, 3742.1, and 3746)
