You're close, except for the "find mates" part. The innate sex appeal of the hardcore 'bent rider is such that the mates flock to find us. That's why we need to wear lycra, so we can go fast enough to evade all the wanna-be partners.

So, I can now summarize the primary positions of the 'bent community with regards to this contraption:

1. It's a heavy piece of shite, made of salvaged iron sewer pipe and stamped-metal components. Avoid it like the plague, lest your brakes fail, your hubs disintegrate, and you die a hideous death under the wheels of a city bus.

2. It's the golden moment in history, the low-cost recumbent whose price will make it practical for the naturally superior 'bent to finally, once and for all, overcome the antiquated safety bicycle whose only real advantage was financial. Really. No, really! Why are you laughing?!? Stop laughing!!!

3. Wal-Mart is the Root of All Evil.

There are other opinions as well, but those are the big ones.

I can see how lycra would help with evading potential mates. I'm not sure how speed enters the equation.

I think I'll meditate on the concept of "Bent Cave" for a while.

I think "Vanilycra" was one of the names The Pale And Frosty One considered for his venture into speed metal; he apparently decided against it due to lack of any ümlaut.
