So many sad stories… I hope they would show this in every high school.

I'm sorry, I was too busy texting my friend across the auditorium to pay attention to the movie.

That is a good use of time.

I don't drive much, but I try to be aware of this: I am more likely to kill another human while driving than I am in all the other things I do. That was true even when I worked in operating rooms where, as they say, "lives depended on us."

This was very moving. However, I was bothered by the fact that they seldom spoke about how the law applied to the offenders. They only mentioned about that one girl that paid $50,000 on restitution and did community service, and the other guy who alluded being in court. I would have like to know more about if they did jail, time served (or community service), and also what kind of law applies in their state.

@bg if you do a little research you'll find that many people kill while distracted by various things and get minimal penalties -- a few days in jail, a small fine -- nothing much. E.g., in New Jersey they passed a law in 2012 that allows drivers who are texting at the time of an accident to be charged with reckless driving (5-10 years in jail). Previously the charge would have been distracted driving ($100 fine). The law is named after someone who was killed by a texting driver, who got a few days in jail as penalty. Here in PA we have laws against texting while driving, but I don't think texting when you have an accident means you can be charged with anything worse than distracted driving. And police aren't allowed to check if you were texting when you had the accident, so unless you make an admission you won't be charged even with that. BTW, as I've said before, I favor a technological solution -- disable phone's ability to text in the driver's seat. People could still find workarounds, but it would be difficult enough that texting while driving would become rare.

This is pretty much off-topic, but if you haven't had the opportunity to do so as yet, do check out Werner Herzog's other work. For example the recent Grizzly Man , and just about everything that featured Klaus Kinski.
