Lots of people do it everyday so I think you're safe. I am not sure what sort of enforcement they have as far as what you are you using the lot for but again, I think you're safe.
Wilkinsburg Park & Ride Lot
Does anyone know if the Wilkinsburg Park & Ride lot is safe to park at? I am trying to figure out a way to commute to downtown Pgh from Forest HIlls via bicycle and do not want to cycle the one really bad section of ardmore blvd.
Both of my sisters parked there and bussed into Oakland during their first years at Pitt. Neither of them ever had a problem.
Is the question whether it is safe to park a car there, or a bike? I think cars are generally safe with the proper precautions (nothing of value visible, etc).
Or are you thinking about personal safety?
I was thinking car safety. I contacted the Port Authority about parking and biking. You can only take the bus. No parking and biking.
How do they enforce that? Who says you don't bike to work and rack-and-ride your way back to your car? What a silly response on their part, especially considering how government-subsidized these park and ride lots are.
While I haven't ever parked in that lot, I've ridden buses from the Wilkinsburg stop many times and have never noticed any sort of Port Authority official anywhere nearby.
if they give you shit, just rack your bike to the next bus, smile and be on your way.
