They are still commonly used in bmx. Check out dans comp or albes. Also, converting to linear pull brakes would be pretty straightforward and give the bike much better braking.

Yes, they're archaic, but I'm trying to fix a friend's older MTB and that's what he has in the back (currently a DiaCompe). Does anybody have one in good condition they'd be willing to sell? If so, email me at calvetti.fam at verizon.net

Thanks! I had thought about that, but I wasn't sure if the BMX ones had the same reach. Plus, a lot of them seem to route the yoke around the seattube which definitely wouldn't work under the BB. I'm going to check into it, though. Thanks again.
