VOLUNTEER FOR PEDAL PITTSBURGH

Still thinking about volunteering or participating in Pedal Pittsburgh? Read on! This year promises to be a great ride. If you’re still reading this, you’re a prime candidate to volunteer or participate! (Sounds a bit like a public radio or television membership drive, doesn’t it?)

The Community Design Center of Pittsburgh (www.cdcp.org) is gearing up for Volkswagen Pedal Pittsburgh 2002 ~ “City on a Roll”, scheduled for Sunday, May 19! Each year nearly 200 volunteers come together to share in the excitement and fun of our event. This year we hope to attract nearly 2200 cyclists and need the support of our volunteers more than ever before to help make the day a success.

The CDCP greatly appreciates your participation in this unique bicycle tour of Pittsburgh’s neighborhoods, architectural highlights, and design landmarks. Your efforts, in turn, support CDCP programs that help make a direct contribution in the revitalization of Pittsburgh neighborhoods.

Tasks include serving fruit and water at rest stops, helping with registration, serving as a ride guide, directing riders along routes as a course marshal and more. No matter which task you choose, you’re sure to have a great time, meet new people, and help make the event a success!

To volunteer, contact Jennifer Fox from CDCP via e-mail: jfox@cdcp.org. Jennifer can email you a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet that shows the current volunteer needs.

We look forward to seeing you on Sunday, May 19!

LOOKING FOR A FEW GOOD VOLUNTEERS

Lee Klevens (klevens@stargate.net) is looking for some volunteers to help out with the “Indiana Twp Youth Day 2002” on Saturday, May 18th. The purpose of the event is to bring together the community’s adults and youths in order to foster positive activities and an interest in community. This is a free event targeting the township’s residents, however no one will be turned away. There will be plenty of refreshments (dogs, burgers, pizza, cookies, chips, slurpies, etc.), displays/ demos (dance, Tae Kwon Do, SWAT team, Life Flight, emergency equip, military equip, hot rods, NASCAR, fly fishing, and more…), and events (face painting, hay rides, boardwalk games, blow-up bouncy rooms, and a bike rodeo / safety check). The bike rodeo and safety check is Lee’s responsibility. In the years past, some very generous souls have helped out. Lee is reaching out for some help. He’s in need of volunteers to help him set up (from about 8:30-9:00 AM) and help throughout the day (until 4PM or perhaps later). Volunteers should be willing to help: set up/ run an obstacle course, perform helmet/ bike safety checks, run bicycle powered slot cars, make sure no one gets hurt, and most importantly HAVE FUN! Children attending should bring their bikes and helmets. Adults are welcome to do the same. Liquid refreshments provided to those interested, AFTER the event. Please let Lee know if anyone is able to join him in volunteering and having a good time. Lee’s email is: klevens@stargate.net
