FIRST ANNUAL TRAIL MIX(ER)

Have you accessed the riverfront trails yet? Friends of the Riverfront – a Pittsburgh-based non-profit organization, is celebrating the continued redevelopment of Pittsburgh’s riverfronts and trail expansions by hosting an inaugural benefit event. Trail Mix(er) will be held on Friday, June 21, 2002, from 6 until 9pm and is supported by the generosity of Mellon Bank Financial Services. The event will take place along the Allegheny River at the new Carnegie Mellon National Robotics Engineering Consortium at Ten 40th Street in Lawrenceville. Guests are invited to Hike, Bike, Paddle or Bus to Trail Mix(er) on the Riverfront Trail. This exciting new event will showcase the environmental and recreational projects of Friends of the Riverfront and open the newest section of the Three Rivers Heritage Trail. Trail Mix(er) also serves to highlight the significant efforts of the Lawrenceville community and their expanding riverfront trail and amenities.

Not your typical fund raiser, this event will be staged outdoors and integrated with the rivers on the summer solstice ~ the longest day of the year. Guests will enjoy music, arts, food, beverages, tours, and Friends. Tickets are $50 per person or $35 for members of Friends of the Riverfront or for those arriving by hike, bike, boat or bus!

Friends of the Riverfront is a ten-year old organization dedicated to the redevelopment of Pittsburgh’s riverfront and the continued expansion of the Three Rivers Heritage Trail. SHOWERS FOR COMMUTERS SURVEY

Keep those surveys coming in! So far, we’ve received surveys from dozens on readers who are interested in commuting, or have already committed to arriving to and from work sweaty and in shape. The goal of the survey is to gain a better understanding of the frequency and locations of urban commutes. A proposal is currently being put together to local Athletic Clubs that would enable urban commuters to use their shower facilities at a reduced rate relative to normal Club membership. Go to www.Bike-Pgh.org to take the survey; please pass this along to anyone that you believe would benefit form this proposed progam.
