Larry Walsh has written an article about Bike Pittsburgh that was published on Page C-18 (Sports) of the Sunday, November 3rd issue of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. The article focuses on the need for greater acceptance of cyclists in the Pittsburgh Region. This is one of the key points in Bike Pittsburgh’s mission.

CMU SURVEY ~ COMMUNAL BIKES FOR PITTSBURGH?
CMU Seniors Jess Liberatore and Joshua Space are working on a project developing ideas for a communal (free) bike system for Pittsburgh. They have put together a short survey, and request your input.

Please help to make their project a success. Take a few moments and give them your feedback.
DOWNTOWN COMMUTER’S SURVEY
Do you bike to work? The PDP’s Transportation Management Association (TMA) is trying to identify Downtown employees who bicycle to work for a possible bike project in 2003. If you bike to work on a semi-regular basis, please email Lucinda at (lbeattie@downtownpittsburgh.com) with your name, building or company address, and email address.

November 4th – Pittsburgh to Harrisburg Greenway Open House
This event is sponsored by Friends of the Riverfront (www.FriendsOfTheRiverfront.org). You are invited to a planning and design open house for The Pittsburgh-to-Harrisburg Mainline Canal Greenway. The Open House is Monday, November 4th from 1:00pm to 7:00pm at the Friends of the Riverfront’s New Office located in the Terminal Properties at 33 Terminal Way in Pittsburgh’s South Side (the big brick warehouses off East Carson Street near the Liberty Bridge).
Drop by anytime between 1:00pm and 5:00pm to:

* View and update detailed maps of your region
* Discuss your ideas with other community members and greenway experts

November 5th – Schenley Park Lunchtime Series – Lou Fineberg

Mark your calendars to join us every Tuesday at the Schenley Park Visitor Center (near Phipps Conservatory) at 12:00 noon for a new exciting lecture series – Schenley Park Lunchtime Series: Lectures with a View. Each week there will be a different local speaker from the outdoor, environmental, historical or artistic communities. Each presentation will be 20 minutes followed by 10 minutes of questions. All lectures are free and make a perfect compliment to your own brown bag lunch or something delicious from the cafe.
Cyclist Lou Fineberg (who is also on the Bike Pittsburgh Board of Directors), will speak on his new book 3 Rivers on 2 Wheels. Come learn about some great rides here in the ‘Burgh!.

November 17th – Bike Trip: Mahoning Path
This event is sponsored by The Western Pennsylvania Field Institute (www.wpfi.org). Following the Mahoning Path, a former Native American trail, this trail was one of the earliest rails-to-trails, dedicated in 1983. Scenic farms and woods abound along the Stavitch Trail. November 30th – Urban Trail Ride
This event is sponsored by The Western Pennsylvania Field Institute (www.wpfi.org). Pittsburgh has bike trails along all three rivers–really!–but it takes a knowledgeable guide to connect them smoothly. You can expect a great tour of the city and its riverfronts with plenty of interesting stops along the way. Bring a daypack, water and lunch. December 1st – 13th Annual Dirt Rag Punk Bike Enduro
This event is sponsored by P.O.R.C. (www.porcmtbclub.org) and Dirt Rag Magazine (www.dirtragmag.com). P.O.R.C and Dirt Rag present: The 13th annual Punk Bike Enduro. Sunday, December 1st, 2002. at 10 am sharp at the Dorseyville Fire Hall in Dorseyville, Pennsylvania.
This is an 8 to 10 stage stage race for fun and points. The most points wins. Categories include: Overall, Women and Junior. No fees, no NORBA, no rules. Eats & party after it’s all over. You bring the eats, (or go hungry). A kitchen is available; beer provided by Penn Brewery.
Course volunteers needed, please call! (See number below)… Dress for cold, wet weather; you might wear a helmet as there is no insurance.
