PARKING YOUR BIKE AT PITT

If you are a Pitt student or work on the Pitt campus, the University of Pittsburgh has good news for you! The University of Pittsburgh maintains approximately 90 bike racks and 20 bike lockers. The University offers FREE bike registration (handy if your bike is stolen and recovered); use of the campus bike racks is free, and rental of the bike lockers on a per-term basis can be done for a minimal charge.

Recently, an inventory of bike racks was completed, and the University is seeking additional input on the need and locations of additional bike racks:

* Where are additional racks needed (near University buildings only, please)?
* What is the best way to advise you of bike information?

Please email your answers/questions to: (rideshare@bc.pitt.edu), or call the Ridesharing Office at: (412) 624-0687. Visit the University of Pittsburgh Parking website at: (http://www.pts.pitt.edu). For bicycle-specific information, visit: (http://www.pts.pitt.edu/Rideshar/bicreg.htm).

WEST END IMPROVEMENTS UPDATE

If you live in the West End and want to get Downtown by bicycle, you know how difficult this can be. Access to and bicycling on the West End Bridge is not for the inexperienced. Starting in late 2005, work will begin to improve access to and from Downtown from this area. Specifically, a separate bicycle/pedestrian route will be built into the new project, providing a safe and direct route.

PennDOT maintains a website with details and artist renditions of the area to be improved. You can find project details, timelines, and additional information at their site: (http://www.westendimprovements.com). Bike Pittsburgh will post any updates to progress as we receive it.
