Demand safer streets!

In a 24 hour period three pedestrians were hit in Pittsburgh.

One of them was killed. Two are in the hospital with extensive injuries. A total of three pedestrians have been killed in the past three months.

When will this stop? The answer is when the people of Pittsburgh stand up and demand safer streets!

“We want to continue to move forward and do anything we can to assure this doesn’t happen again.” -Mayor Luke Ravenstahl in response to the death of 17-year-old Adrienne T. Keil, who was killed while walking on a sidewalk

We need to demand that the City, County, and PennDOT devote more resources to keeping our citizens safe, not just moving traffic as fast as possible through our streets. We need a combination of infrastructure investment (better street design, traffic calming measures), dedicated staff to fully concentrate on the development and execution of a City Bicycle and Pedestrian Plans, and better enforcement of the vehicle code. This should be the back bone of a safe streets initiative. An initiative that needs to be funded ASAP!
