Pedal power: Cyclists should be more involved as biking advocates

This excellent post appeared yesterday, November 26th, in Gristmill – the blog associated with Grist, the environmental news website. The post is very Pacific Northwest centric, but the facts and advice he gives are universal across the US. Not enough cyclists are speaking up for safer streets that are designed to accommodate bikes, but if every cyclist joins or helps start a bike advocacy organization near where they live, then real change will be made. Bike Pittsburgh, with fewer than 700 members (a big thanks to everyone who has joined!), has been able to accomplish a lot in five years. Just imagine what we could do with 2500+ members all speaking up for bicycles to our elected officials!
