Today, December 12, 2007, City Council unanimously (well, at least all those present for the vote) passed Bill No. 2007-1979. This resolution authorizes the Mayor and the Director of City Planning to enter into a grant agreement with the Richard King Mellon Foundation to receive monies to support a Bike Pedestrian Coordinator for a period of two years and further providing for legitimate expenditures for payments of salary and fringe benefits in connection with the execution of the grant agreement.
Thank you to everyone who took the time to write to and call the Mayor and their City Councilperson to request this position be funded. And, thank you to the Richard King Mellon Foundation for working with Bike Pittsburgh, City Planning, DPW and the Mayor’s Office to fund this incredibly important position! This is a huge step for the City, and we look forward to working with the new Bike/Ped Coordinator whenever he or she is hired.
