Free Ride! Holiday Bike Build-A-Thon a Success!!

With snow (or rain) falling, the Christmas lights twinkling and the Dreydels spinning, Free Ride decided to harness that Holiday Spirit and do a Kids Bike give away. We hosted two Kids Bike Build-a-Thons in which 60 bikes were repaired. Over 50 people participated by wrenching on seized bolts, scrubbing clean rusty wheels, inflating little tires and making sure all coaster brakes would coast the kids to safety.

These 60 bikes were then donated to the Pittsburgh Housing Authority. They will distribute the bicycles to youth in public housing communities throughout the city. For more pictures of the Build-A-Thon, click here.

free ride buildFear not if you missed out on the bike building joy, Free Ride will be hosting 2 Adult Bike Build-A-thons in January. We are sending bikes to Nyadire, Zimbambwe that will provide people with a much needed affordable means of transportation. More information on the project will follow later.

These Build-A-Thons will be held

    Wednesday, January 16th from 6PM @ 10PM
    Sunday, January 20th from 1PM – 6PM

If you cannot make it either of these times, feel free to stop in to Free Ride during open shop hours to help repair these bikes.
Check Free Ride’s website for hours and schedule.
