Calling all cyclists in and around Oakland!!
Show up to one of the two Blvd of the Allies Master Plan meetings, and help the Oakland neighborhood become more bike friendly!
Specifically, Oakland's area of interest is the Blvd of the Allies, between Forbes Avenue and Parkview Avenue along the southern neighborhood border.
In recent years, this stretch of road has come under much debate as the City has rezoned the corridor as the OPR-D realm to allow for increased commercial development, as concepts have emerged to create a true “boulevard” to Schenley Park and as discussions have taken place around the terminus of the Mon Fayette Expressway. Additionally, the
head of Bates Street is Oakland's portal from the east. There has been ongoing community discussion of a park at this intersection, new designs have been proposed for the Bates Street valley, and the Oakland Task Force has completed traffic studies. Despite all of focus, there remains no comprehensive plan or vision for the corridor and for how it relates to the rest of Oakland. The primary study goal of the Oakland element if the study is to develop this comprehensive plan and incorporate it into the city
zoning code.
On February 27th, at 4:00-5:30pm and 6:00-7:30pm, at the Community Human Services building on 374 Lawn Street, OPDC is hosting a planning workshop, with the consulting team, to provide additional study background and to outline a timeline for community feedback and completion of the study. We look forward to seeing you there!
