Venture Outdoors is teaming up with the Kingsley Association and The Pittsburgh Major Taylor Cycling Club to host a FREE family cycling event. Beyond Bikes Day, a family bike fest of sorts, will take place on Saturday, May 30 at the Kingsley Center in East Liberty. The day will include easy rides throughout the neighborhood, led by the Major Taylor Cycling Club. There will also be games and raffles of kid’s bikes and gear throughout the day, including a grand prize of an LL Bean Ridge Runner Bike (value: $279). The rides are aimed at youth, families, and beginners, so if you want to gain some experience riding on the streets, this is a perfect opportunity.
According to VO, the “event will encourage biking as a family-friendly activity, as well as showcase some of the bike lanes in Pittsburgh, particularly the bike lane along East Liberty Boulevard.” It is part of VO’s Family and Community Programs Initiative, which seeks to increase the diversity of the of the outdoors community and to promote healthy, active living. There is great synergy between the groups as VO are the experts in getting people outside, the Kingsley Associationn works with East End youth and their families to provide impactful programming, and the Major Taylor Cycling Club (a program of University of Pittsburgh’s Center for Minority Health), are committed to promoting cycling for health, recreation and socialization.
BikePGH and Free Ride will be on hand to provide bike safety inspections.
All rides start and return to the Kingsley Center. Refreshments provided.
