The international celebration of cycling makes its first visit to the Steel City on July 2-4.

The international Bicycle Film Festival is in its ninth year, traveling to more than 30 cities, including New York, London, Paris, Sidney and Tokyo. This year, for the first time, the festival will be coming to Pittsburgh thanks to Urban Velo and BikePGH.  Screenings will be held at the Andy Warhol Museum on July 2nd and 3rd.

The heart and soul of the film festival are the short films—contributed by filmmakers from around the world, both professional and amateur. Additionally, two high-profile films highlight this year’s festival.  Made in Queens tells the story of New York City youths from Trinidad who attach 15,000 watt stereo systems to their bicycles.  Where Are You Go documents an incredible bicycle ride across Africa—from Cairo to Cape Town.  In addition to film screenings, the Bicycle Film Festival is world famous for its parties.  Pittsburgh will put on its collective party hat July 2nd, 3rd and 4th.  On opening night, cyclists will convene at Over the Bar Bicycle Café for indoor bicycle roller racing (dubbed Black and Goldsprints). Friday night’s BFF afterparty will bring hundreds of cyclists together at the Southside Brew House for a night of art, music and dancing.  Saturday’s bicycle polo tournament and picnic will once again bring people together, this time in an urban outdoor setting, culminating with a group ride to watch Pittsburgh’s renowned fireworks.
