Car Free Fridays is Making Headlines

The Press jumps on the Car Free Fridays bandwagon

Diana Nelson Jones, of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, was inspired to go car free for the day.  She always takes the bus to work, and uses a company car to when she’s “out and about on the job.”  On Friday, she’ll use transit all day to run around, and she wants you to submit your car free stories for use in a future piece.  Comments can be submitted to her email address: djones@post-gazette.com

Mellisa Meinzer of the Pittsburgh City Paper encourages you to abuse your casual Friday at work by leaving the Hawaiian shirt at home and bringing in the bike instead.

Car Free Fridays, along with other local sustainability initiatives, inspired Debra Diamond Smit of Pop City to call for a change of name of the county from Allegheny to “Green County.”

Back at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Car Free Fridays picked up two more stories in separate sections.  In the Outdoors section, Larry Walsh ponders whether you are ready to go car free, while Jon Schmitz over in Transportation calls for us to break from “the one-person one-car mode” of travel.  He also explains how to use your bike with transit.

Finally, you can join the conversation on the BikePGH Messageboard about the event.
