East Liberty Blvd when the bike lane was fresh
Better pavement marking materials, improved intersections to be installed
It seems that the call for better road marking materials is being taken seriously. Less than a year after the famed East Liberty Blvd bike lane and road diet went in, the paint is already fading, creating a confusing situation. The City and the Bike/Ped coordinator are dealing with the matter this week, and will be installing a more durable thermoplastic marking on the street. The re-striping will also improve the markings at the intersections along the route.
This project, although weather dependent, is expected to take a few days. Part one will include eradication of some of the existing markings, and is supposed to happen today. Tomorrow, if the rain holds out, will see the installation of the new stripes.
The City is asking that cyclists either avoid the stretch or take additional care during the restriping process.
