The annual Pedal Pittsburgh, this Sunday, May 16
Pittsburgh, once pretty inhospitable to cyclists, is now known as a bike-friendly city.
We’ve got our designated bike lanes, our sharrows, our rivefront trails, our City bike/ped coordinator and advocacy group BikePGH. And we’ve got Pedal Pittsburgh.
Now in its 17th year, Pedal Pittsburgh is one of the region’s largest all-city bike rides, says Jen Fox event organizer with Community Design Center of Pittsburgh. Last year’s event celebrated a record turnout of nearly 2,200 riders. For this year’s event, which starts and finishes this Sun., May 16 at the SouthSide Works, participants can choose from six courses ranging from six to 60 miles.
Bike Pittsburgh, says Fox, is not just a fun way to get some exercise — it’s an opportunity to explore the city, to discover Pittsburgh beyond the neighborhoods you already know so well…

This sounds like a lot of fun, but why is it only being announced here only a few days before the event?
It would be great if these event notices were posted a few weeks in advance so people could make plans. Is there some sort of calendar of events that lists these for the next few months out?
Or maybe something like a once-a-month post of “here’s all the cool things that are happening in the next 90 days”?
well, this isn’t our event, so it’s not our thing to promote, unless someone specifically asks us to help with promotion. we’re just posting it because it’s a popular event that people should know about.
any cycling event that we know about, or that people tell us about get posted to our events calendar, located in the above dropdown: http://bike-pgh.org/events/calendar
this event has been on that calendar for awhile, maybe months
Also, if you subscribe to our e-newsletter, each one has highlighted events for the next month in advance, plus a link to our general events calendar
you can subscribe by putting your email in the box in the right column
You can also subscribe to our calendar of events RSS feed or, if you use a Google Calendar, you can add the Bike Pittsburgh Calendar of Events to your calendar.
