Act Now to Defend Dollars for Biking and Walking!

As we alerted you on April 15th, the latest budget agreed upon by the U.S. Congress includes $2.5 billion in rescissions to unspent federal transportation funds. It is essential that we mobilize immediately to protect hundreds of millions of dollars for bicycle and pedestrian projects and programs.

Please take action and contact Governor Corbett today to ensure that funding cuts for the rescission do not unfairly target bicycling and walking projects.

I was on an innerweb conference with State Representative Rick Geist http://www.rickgeist.com/ last night and he said the most effective means to contact the elected – if you cannot meet face to face – is a handwritten, personalized letter. So I would suggest to use the League of American Bicyclists action alert statements as a starter, cite a federally funded bike/ped infrastructure that you enjoy or explain how you are personally affected by the projects and programs funded by federal transportation dollars.

It’s a little bit more involved, but the resulting letter will go much further than the Governor’s Staffer’s spam filter.
