A year after a national group gave Pittsburgh “bicycle-friendly” status, two city officials and the head of Bike Pittsburgh traveled to Minneapolis this week to see how to further improve the city’s bicycle culture.
Yarone Zober, Mayor Luke Ravenstahl’s chief of staff, Stephen Patchan, the city’s bicycle-pedestrian coordinator, and Scott Bricker, executive director of Bike Pittsburgh, attended the three-day Bicycle Transportation Leadership Workshop sponsored by the city of Minneapolis and bicycle groups.
The League of American Bicyclists has named Minneapolis a bicycle-friendly city with gold status, so officials wanted to see what tips they might glean for moving beyond the bronze status awarded to Pittsburgh last year.
“The one thing that really struck me is the bike-share program,” Mr. Zober said.
