What better way to check out Pittsburgh’s newest museum: Bicycle Heaven
BikeFest is on the way! As a celebration of all things cycling put on for and by bikers throughout the city, it’s important for us to continually call attention to how essential you all are to the success of BikeFest. In an effort to ensure that this year’s BikeFest is bigger and better than the year before, we are promoting particular events on our website so that you can get a sneak peak of the fun in store!
You may think that Bicycle Heaven is Portland, or maybe OTB on Taco Tuesdays, but it’s actually a new North Side museum dedicated to all things with two wheels. The museum is made up of many rare, vintage, and antique bikes and also acts as a fully functioning shop for all of your sales and service needs. It was founded by Craig Morrow who has been collecting and repairing bikes for decades before deciding to own and operate Bicycle Heaven. There are about 90,000 bikes and accessories that are all on display for free. With such an array of bikes and accessories there’s something for everyone to enjoy; whether you want to reminisce about your old Schwinn Sting Ray or imagine what it was like to ride a boneshaker back in the 1860s.
The River Ride to Bike Heaven will meet in the parking lot under the 31st Street Bridge (by Three River’s Rowing Washington’s Landing) on Saturday August 20th at 9:30 am and will total about a 15-20 miles on the riverfront trails and a bit of side streets ending in the Northside at Bicycle Heaven (R.J. Casey Industrial Park, 1800 Preble Ave). The event and admission are free. All ages and riding abilities are encouraged to attend.
