3,000,000 Calorie Call for Celebration
Congratulations has been due. We passed 3,000,000 calories a few weeks back. How fitting then that our winner for the 3,000,000 calorie raffle is David Kir.
Not long before we hit our mark Dave had just returned from France, an epic pilgrimage that he’s been making an annual affair. Nice, huh? One caveat, Dave’s trip is all about pain. He joins 10,000 other masochists in taking on some of the steepest hills on the Tour de France as the tour is taking place. The roads are closed and the ride organizers arrange for types like Dave to have access to the course before the racers arrive. Burn baby burn! Naturally, Dave didn’t count those miles towards his car free totals, but when he arrived home back to the Paris of Appalachia his 1,380 active transportation miles helped us grind out our goal.
When asked about his commute DK says, “I like not sitting on my butt motionless in a car. How people convince themselves that sitting in a car for several hours a day is normal behavior by any stretch of the imagination is beyond me.” He goes on further to concede, “OK every once in a while… but every day?” Dave also says, “Saving time, saving money, and maintaining health are others [reasons he likes to bike to work].” Clearly a driven individual he likes the “wake-up” and to ride the “endorphin rush”, which he claims is better than coffee any day.”
Dave had a choice of prizes, his first inclination was the OTB gift certificate, but when he got to the office and saw the awesome bag of swag from American Eagle his fatherly and hubby instincts got the best of him. Congratulations to Stella, Noa, and Kim, the women in Dave’s life – daddy’s bringing home the bounty to share with everyone.
Why did this hill-loving fellow join the ranks of the car free calculator? He wanted to see how well he stacked up to Commuter X. We all have our reasons, clearly Mr. Kir is motivated by a little competition. Thank you Dave, and keep tracking the miles you bike (and walk) to commute, shop, and run errands.
Speaking of Commuter X. The riddle has been solved. With the exception for one road, our winner was spot on. We’ll learn about the sleuth and Commuter X’s daily journey in the next edition of the Car Free Fridays blog.
More raffle prizes on the way
As far as the next raffle prize targets. We have two.
- Let’s bring attention to people loyally logging their walking miles. We have 2,618 walking miles logged so far. Another raffle prize winner will be announced when we’ve logged 3,000 walking miles. You can only win if you’ve logged walking miles.
- The other goal is when we have 400 people signed up for the calculator. Right now we have 320.
