Calculator subscribers have together saved more than $50,000
When Bike Pittsburgh launched the Car Free Calculator we set a goal for the first year of 500 subscribers and 100,000 miles. “Our goals were pretty ambitious from the start so this is great news,” said Scott Bricker, the organization’s head honcho when he learned 100,000 miles had been passed. It was new Bike Pittsburgh staff member Seth Gernot that made the milestone entry. Seth likes to add his totals in batches, so when the time came for him to do some catch up he took the Calculator into six figures. “We didn’t know what to expect [last December when the link was shared with a handful of people to help make sure there were not any glaring technical problems],” added Bricker, “but the response has really exceeded my expectations.” BikePGH officially launched the calculator in the weeks leading up to National Bike to Work Day, the day of our annual launch of Car Free Fridays. Return users like Commuter x, Urbanrider, Trabbit, Salty, Mr. Marvelous, Bikerant, Zack Attack and others started showing early on that they were serious about tracking their car-free miles. Together hundreds of us have entered a few miles here, a few there, and slowly but surely we’re starting to see significant gains.
We are only 39 subscribers shy of our goal of 500 for the year. When we meet this goal, Bike Pittsburgh will hold our biggest raffle drawing yet. If you or your company wants to add to the prize send an email to cff@bike-pgh.org. Our previous raffle prize winner was Commuter x who chose a $25 American Eagle gift certificate. Apparently his long commute is taking a toll his socks and his UGGs are no match for the 15 miles he rides back and forth to work.
