Car Free Fridays begins its fourth year
It’s been a relatively mild winter so far, including some days when sunglasses would have actually been useful, making us wonder, is this really Pittsburgh? It also reminds us that Spring is just around the corner. Bike Pittsburgh is starting to plan for Bike to Work Day, the first big Car Free Fridays event of the year!
Typically for Bike to Work Day we coordinate several destination locations with the main event being held Downtown in Market Square or Agnes Katz Plaza, but this year we’re looking at approaching the day a little differently. We’d like to host more locations around town to greet people en route to their destination. These “Hydration Stations” have worked incredibly well in San Francisco.
To pull this off will require a bit more coordination and planning. Bike Pittsburgh doesn’t do it alone, we never have. Every year community groups, local universities, businesses, non-profits, Bike Pittsburgh Members and volunteers, and the city have pitched in to make the day a success.
Help us make this Bike to Work Day the best yet! At this point here’s where we need your help:
- Recommend good locations for Hydration Stations in the morning or after work.
- Sign up to volunteer at Hydration Stations, distribute posters before hand, or agree to promote Bike to Work Day at work.
- If your company or the company you work for might be interested in supporting Bike to Work Day this year let us know. We got some good ideas brewing we just need some community support to make them happen.
Send an email to CFF@bike-pgh.org to let us know how you want to get involved.
