You “like” us, but do you like us like us?

Update your status to “BikePGH Member” and make a statement.

We are blown away by how many people and organizations out there are engaged with us on our various social media sites. Clearly our mission and the content we’re creating resonates with you.

For that, we’re really pleased and quite thankful that so many people continue to click that “like” button. What I’m not so sure we’re doing a great job of communicating to our social media followers, however, is that the reason we’re able to exist and get stuff done is because of our donor-members. So it makes us hopeful that everyone “liking” or “following” our organization may one day go the extra mile and choose to financially support our work.

Recently, we hit 4,600 “likes” on Facebook and we’re closing in on that number on Twitter, yet we only have roughly 1750 donor-members. Just think of how much more work we could do, and how much stronger our voice would be in Greater Pittsburgh with nearly 3000 more individuals contributing financially to BikePGH.

We would be able to more quickly connect our city’s streets with safe bicycle infrastructure, put on more fun bicycling events and rides, make sure there was safe and secure bike parking all over the city, step up our work with local employers to outfit their offices to be more bike friendly, do more outreach into our neighborhoods, and spearhead innovative educational activities to reach more drivers and bike riders alike. We would also be able to reach out to more businesses to give back to our members in the form of popular discounts.

So this question goes out to all our fans, followers, and folks who once clicked that “like” button—Do you want to see Pittsburgh transform into a world-class city with safe streets for everyone? If your answer is “yes,” then please drop what you’re doing and update your status to “BikePGH Member” today. We promise we’ll remain a steady fan of yours for years to come.
