Car Free Fridays Events Takes Off With Kelly Strayhorn Theater

New initiative promotes local events that encourage Car Free Fridays

Car Free Fridays Events launches a summer of fun with more reasons to arrive to your destination car free. This begins a series of events from local organizations that will be promoted under the Car Free Fridays banner. The first featured events are brought to you by The Kelly Strayhorn Theater. When patrons arrive to Friday performances to KST’s East Liberty LIVE! using active transportation throughout the summer they will receive a voucher good for two tickets to a future performance during the summer. The first show is June 22, Lostwax: Particular. Below is the entire list of shows.

East Liberty LIVE! is a series of vibrant summer programs that engage and energize the community. The series includes KST Presents, family matinees, youthMoves, dance classes and more.

“It’s our goal to have programs happening in East Liberty all summer long,” says Janera Solomon, Executive Director of Kelly Strayhorn Theater.” Patrons experience high-caliber performances that are just $10 each, plus our FAMILYtime series is pay-what-you-can. We want our space to attract people to the neighborhood to support the arts and contribute to the growth of the community. East Liberty LIVE! really brings the community together.”

This new feature of Car Free Fridays gives organizations an excellent opportunity to further promote their Friday events that provide sufficient bike parking, are located along transit routes, and offer incentives to people that arrive by bike, foot, or public transportation. If the event qualifies BikePGH helps get the word out to it’s members, partners, and fans.

“It’s exciting for us to have Kelly Strayhorn Theater as our first partner for Car Free Fridays Events,” says BikePGH head Scott Bricker, “KST’s commitment to community and the vibrancy of their neighborhood through performance is such a great fit to help encourage biking, walking, and taking the bus.”

For organizations in need of temporary bike parking, arrangements can be made through BikePGH. Contact cff@bike-pgh.org or call 412-325-4334 to find out about making your Friday event car lite and getting the word out to people who appreciate it.
