Last Thursday and Friday, the Dutch Cycling Embassy paid a visit to Pittsburgh to put on their ThinkBike workshop with the stated purpose of adding “a Dutch boost to bicycling on American city streets.” The City of Pittsburgh planned the workshop that included planners, urban designers, traffic engineers, community stakeholders, and advocates. The problem we delved into was getting bicyclists safely from Craft Ave to Morewood Ave via the Fifth/Forbes corridor. Mayor Ravenstahl helped kick things off by stating that he recognized the importance of making Oakland safer for bicyclists and that he was committed to implementing changes to achieve that end. In a future blog post we hope to share the presentations from the workshop. For now we are just linking to the media coverage of the event.
