Sun July 15: Help lead the Tour de Frack into Pittsburgh

The Tour de Frack is coming through Pittsburgh on Sunday July 15th.

The Tour de Frack are a group of grassroots organizers from the shale fields of Western Pennsylvania and neighboring states concerned about the negative effects of hydraulic fracturing (or fracking) and its supporting infrastructure.

They are organizing a two week bike tour from July 14-July 28, 2012 from Butler, PA (about 45 miles north of Pittsburgh) to Washington DC along the Great Allegheny Passage (GAP) and C&O towpath (C&O).

They are looking for riders for the whole tour, or just parts of it.

Here is the info for when it arrives in Pittsburgh.

July 15 Events:

Community ride into Pittsburgh – Ride with the Tour into Pittsburgh

Approx. start time 2pm

Location: Millvale Allegheny Riverfront Park

70 Riverfront Dr., Pittsburgh, PA 15209

Ride with the Tour de Frack! Meet at the Millvale Allegheny Riverfront Park at approximately 2pm and ride into Pittsburgh in a show or force. All participants will receive a TDF sticker. Destination: TBA

Gather and Grow – Celebrate the 100th birthday of Woody Guthrie

6:30-8:30

Location: Homestead Pump House

880 East Waterfront Drive, Munhall, PA 15120

Local legend in the labor rights movement Mike Stout will lend his voice to the anti-fracking movement and help us celebrate the life of the original movement musician Woody Guthrie on the centennial of his birth (July 14, 1912). Local speakers and members of TDF will also take to the stage.
