This Friday, Sept 20th is PARK(ing) Day 2013

Missed I <3 My Bike and the Wheel of Swag during BikeFest? Visit us on PARK(ing) Day!

PARK(ing) Day is a day to rethink how we use urban spaces.  On Friday, September 20th hundreds of organizations, individuals, and Lucia <3 Bike blogbusinesses worldwide will be temporarily transforming parking spots into small social spaces called “Parklets”. This year, BikePGH will create a parklet outside of the Downtown Carnegie Library. Stop by between 8am and 2pm to pick up your copy of the brand new, 5th Edition Pittsburgh Bike Map and check out the I ? My Bike anti-theft photo booth.  You’ll get a great photo of you and your bike, and store your bike’s information in our private database to verify ownership in case of loss or theft.  We’ll also have the Wheel of Swag–featured at the BikeFest Fundraiser Party–for folks to spin and win. If you have extra time during the day, there is also a bike ride to check out the different parklets around town.

What is a Parklet?

SFParkletA Parklet is exactly what it sounds like: a small park (pictured Right is a parklet in San Francisco). They are somewhere to sit down and enjoy your surroundings, somewhere to walk or bike to, a place to read the Sunday paper while having that cup of coffee and donut you just picked up at the local bakery.  Parklets improve the aesthetic of neighborhoods, encourage non-motorized transportation, and foster connecting with neighbors.

Visit PARK(ing) Day Pittsburgh’s website and Facebook page to find a temporary Parklet near you!

As mentioned above, if you are interested in doing a bike ride to all of the spots in the city, please join us on Friday morning!

We will meet at 10am at Dippy the Dinosaur (i.e the plaza beside Carnegie Library/Museum in Oakland). Riders of all skill levels are welcome, this will be a slow-paced easy ride and we will keep the group together. Here is the route:
