Hey there, Kaushik!
Kaushik is a phenomenal BikePGH volunteer — in fact, he’s in the helping out in the office as I’m typing this. Read on and get to know a little bit more about a guy who helps to make our work possible.
Kaushik Dayal
Lives in: Squirrel Hill
Has lived in Pittsburgh: 4 years
How long have you been volunteering? 2.5 years
Why did you decide to volunteer for Bike Pittsburgh? I ride my bike often and BikePGH has done a lot for bikers. I figured I could give back in some way.
What are some things you’ve done as a volunteer? I come in for the volunteer nights where we sign letters and get them ready for the mailing. But the outside stuff is also fun – like the light giveaways. I also volunteered for a day at the the bike valet for Three Rivers Arts Fest in downtown and that was nice.
What type of riding do you enjoy? I mostly ride my bike to commute to work and to get to around town, but I also ride a little for enjoyment. I go to a bunch of the group rides like Flock.
Favorite places to ride in Pittsburgh? Riding down Liberty Avenue is great, though not the most safe route. But there is a great bike lane on Liberty from the West Penn Hospital down to the Bloomfield Bridge (though it is in the door zone). I enjoy to riding on roads with people and shops most but the new Pocusset Street is also a nice ride.
What type of bike(s) do you ride? I have one that’s a hybrid a TREK. In fact, it’s probably in the database. I got a hybrid so that I could bike around the city and take the trails and the Great Allegheny Passage. I just bought a second-hand road bike for commuting.
Big thanks, Kaushik!
