POSITION DESCRIPTION
· Assists in planning transportation programs to enhance access and improve safety.
· Assists in development, implementation, and updates to the Comprehensive Plan.
· Suggests goals, polices, best practices and priorities for transportation, land use planning, projects and management; assists with all assigned aspects of the transportation program.
· Assists in devising programs, projects, and guidelines to meet goals; identifies potential funding sources and recommends programs for federal and other funds; monitors and evaluates the implementation of relevant programs for assigned transportation projects.
· Conducts field investigations.
· Assists in evaluating development proposals, street vacations, zoning and land use changes for impact of proposed projects on neighborhoods; works with developers and groups to devise solutions.
· Reviews, comments and crafts pertinent transportation and environmental legislation and assesses impact on City; advises on impact.
· Provides resource information to residents and organizations on special programs, government funds, budget processes, government operations and City design standards.
· Provides information for and participates in the development of grant applications.
· Develops Requests for Proposals (RFPs); assists in contract negotiations; serves as contract manager as assigned.
· Designs and conducts transportation research studies and surveys; assembles and reports data.
· Establishes and reviews the maintenance of files and information systems; analyzes and interprets data as it relates to real estate property data, U.S. Census data, transportation and traffic data, etc.
· Works with consultants, other government agencies, private developers and community groups.
· Represents the Department of City Planning at meetings, conferences, etc. as assigned.
· Assists in the development of special programs and projects as requested or required.
· Serves as a specialist in functional areas (i.e., transportation, land use, municipal code, economic development, environmental engineering, etc.).
· Carries out specialized planning studies as assigned; serves as chairperson of special task forces as assigned.
· Interacts with counterparts in local, state and federal agencies.
· Prepares accurate letters, reports, testimony and position papers on transportation needs and policies.
· Maintains records, either manually or through automated systems.
· May work evenings and weekends as assigned or required.
· Performs activities and functions of related lower-level personnel as assigned or required.
· Performs other related tasks and duties as assigned or required.
