RSVP Here to join us at 4moms’ new downtown office for BikePGH’s first Business Network Meetup.

Great companies care about more than just financial success, or so says 4moms, a Pittsburgh based robotics company that infuses technological creativity in unexpected places. Since their start in 2005, 4moms has been revolutionizing the baby gear industry with its high-tech products designed to make routine parenting tasks easier. Having been recognized as one of the city’s top places to work, it has become pretty obvious that they are more than just a company, they’re a family. Built upon innovation and entrepreneurial spirit, this place prides itself on its people and the passion they contribute. We sat down with Gabe and Rob, 2 of the 160 (and growing) employees at 4moms to talk about Bike Friendly Businesses, and what believing in better means to them.

We made our way to the cafeteria, stopping first to admire the inspiring view from 10 floors up, to talk about the space that 4moms has built for its employees. Gabe goes on to explain the importance of bikes during initial construction by saying, “early in the process of getting the current space started, we wanted to have a bike focused design, so we brought BikePGH in to help us be bike minded. It was cool getting that insight early on.” With conveniences like bike lanes, trail access, and impeccable skyline views, 4moms has purposely made the city its home. “That kind of ties in to why they chose coming here as opposed to the suburbs,” Gabe said. “We want to be a part of the city and be a part of ‘what’s going on’.”

17830508372_a43ff4dcd9_z4moms decided to make things even easier by offering a small company bike share available for all employees. Rob led us down to take a look while explaining the advantage of this benefit: “It gives everyone an opportunity to get away from the desk to run a lunch errand, grab some food, or cruise around the city.”  They worked with the industrial design team to find bikes that are not only awesome, but that are on image with 4moms. “We have this culture and we’re in this awesome city, we should be able to embrace it and move around.” Gabe said. “The fact is there a little things that go back to making sure you’re you can have a better experience and having all of these accessible in the workplace just makes things better.” With added amenities like showers and basement bike storage, 4moms makes it easy to embrace a healthy lifestyle.

Everything matters. Embrace change at all times. Collaborate. Minimize scope. Get it done. Then improve. Communicate. Good enough isn’t. Awesome enough is. Have fun. Be humble. Work hard. Respect others. These are all the mottos they literally hang on their walls. Any company can market themselves with whimsical values on paper, but that doesn’t necessarily make them true. “Its not an age thing,” Gabe added, “it’s being able to go and do it. 4moms prove that actions speak louder than words with their continuous efforts in making their workspace feel like home, and creating a collaborative culture for employees.
