Getting people to drive a reasonable speed is a design and enforcement issue.
A man who lives in Pittsburgh’s Hazelwood neighborhood wants drivers to slow down on a stretch of road where he says drivers ignore the 25 mph speed limit.
John Jugila said he’s fed up with the speeding on Second Avenue, so he bought a radar gun to see how fast drivers are traveling.
Watch the story and stand with John. Write Councilman O’Connor to tell him this street should be redesigned to slow cars down, and police posted there to pull over speeders. The street should be safe for everyone who lives there and travels through the neighborhood. The neighborhood shouldn’t have to wait for new development before its streets are made safe!

I wonder if the traffic would be slower and calmer if there were wide bike lanes (same direction as traffic on either side) extending all the way from Greenfield along Irvine and then 2nd. I’ve said this before but I really, really hate biking south along Irvine where it is a single lane and much of the (often very sparse) traffic coming northbound is in the left lane. Not only do they speed, but they squeeze over when people speed at them.
