Back when he was a carpenter’s assistant, Scott Bricker was bicycling through Squirrel Hill, navigating a row of impatient drivers as he did every day, when one stopped on the side of the road and demanded, “pull over, so I can beat you up.” Those were the bad old days of the early ’00s, Bricker recalled, when Pittsburgh had “no network of bike lanes, and hostility (toward cyclists) was high.”
