City soliciting 2016 Capital Budget Project ideas online

Submit your project ideas to the City’s online resource

The City of Pittsburgh is handling the 2016 Capital Budget process much differently than previous years. The Capital Budget is basically all of the improvements and construction projects that the City makes to its assets like fire stations, streets, bridges, etc. You’ll find everything from staircase maintenance to bike lanes to new spray parks in the capital budget.

Like any big city, there’s a diversity of interests among the public, and the City has a limited amount of money to make investments with, so it’s very important that pedestrian and bike advocates make our voice heard. Not only does commenting help decision makers understand the public’s needs, but it also creates a paper record so that when the City does invest in things like bike and pedestrian infrastructure, they are backed up by the large number of citizen comments.

In addition to the Capital Budget Deliberative Forums (next one: June 22), citizens can submit to the City’s Mindmixer online resource.

Mindmixer is a forum for sharing ideas, and you’ll need to create an account. Many planning efforts around the city, like the Port Authority and Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy, are now using this website to gain valuable input from the public. Once on the site, you can add your ideas, rate other’s ideas, and discuss topics.

Check out the City of Pittsburgh Mindmixer website

On it you’ll find forums to discuss topic’s like:

– The Mayor’s Capital Budget Priorities (hint: Complete Streets is one of them)
