Walk or Bike to School on October 7th

International Walk to School Day builds awareness of the need for walkable communities, safer and more accessible streets, and building healthy lifestyles for kids. Beginning in the US in 1997, the event is now celebrated in over 40 countries. A National Bike to School Day was established in 2012; last year, more than 2,200 schools participated.

Bike Pittsburgh encourages parents to bike or walk with your kids to school on October 7 — all forms of active transportation, including biking, are welcome as part of the event. To participate: post a picture from your trip and let us know your child’s opinion of the best part of the day’s journey.

Use @BikePGH, #BikePGH and #SafeRoutes to share your photos on Twitter and Facebook.

If you want to get even more involved and plan a larger event for your local school, the National Center for Safe Routes to School has put together a guide for planning an event in 7 days.
