A fall ride to explore an amazing piece of Pittsburgh’s history

The Young Preservationists Association of Pittsburgh is hosting a group bike ride and meetup Saturday, October 24 from the Albright United Methodist Church in Shadyside to the National Negro Opera Company House in Homewood.

The ride will leave the Albright Church at 10:30am, ride past the Saints Peter and Paul Church in Larimer, and end at the Opera Company House in Homewood, where coffee, cider, and donuts will be served.

The Young Preservationists Association is an organization that promotes education and advocacy to help young people throughout Southwest Pennsylvania work to preserve historic structures through restoration and adaptive reuse. YPA’s annual Top Ten Preservation Opportunities List highlights endangered historic sites with a high potential for creative renovation and has included such successes as the Union Project and the Cork Factory.

The ride and meetup will highlight the history of these three threatened sites and the potential they have for reuse and restoration. The National Negro Opera Company was featured on the YPA Top Ten List in 2003, Saints Peter and Paul was included in 2011, and the Albright Church will be a Top Ten Site this year!

Get ready to meet up to learn more about these sites and how YPA promotes historic preservation throughout Southwestern Pennsylvania!
